FeedBat — Privacy Policy

Summary: FeedBat does not collect, store, or transmit any of your data to us or any third party. It has no servers, no analytics, and no tracking.

FeedBat is a Chrome extension that detects RSS, Atom, and JSON feeds on the page you are viewing. This policy explains exactly what the extension does with information on your device.

What the extension accesses

• The current page's content and URL. When you open a page, FeedBat reads that page's HTML — specifically <link> tags, <a> links, meta tags, and (on YouTube) embedded script text — to find feed URLs. This analysis happens entirely in your browser. The page content is never sent anywhere.
• "Check common paths" network requests. When you click the Check common paths button, FeedBat issues HTTP HEAD requests to standard feed locations (such as /feed or /rss.xml) on the website you are currently viewing only. These requests go directly from your browser to that website; no data passes through us. This only happens when you explicitly click the button.
• Your settings. Your four on/off preferences (auto-detect, show potential feeds, show badge count, auto-probe) are saved using Chrome's storage.sync API. Chrome may sync these settings across your own signed-in Chrome browsers. They contain no personal information and are never transmitted to the developer.

What we do NOT do

• We do not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information.

• We do not read or store your browsing history.

Permissions and why they are needed

• activeTab — lets FeedBat read the page you are on (and probe its feed paths) only when you interact with the extension.
• storage — saves your four settings locally / via Chrome sync.
• Content script on all sites — feed detection must be able to run on whatever site you choose to visit. It only reads the page; it never modifies it or sends it anywhere.

Children's privacy

FeedBat collects no data from anyone, including children.
